Photo Modes

David Verdini of Hamilton Square, NJ has been shooting as a hobby for ten years, professionally for two. "It's an art form and I enjoy being able to combine my technical side along with my artistic side," he says.

Verdini bought his first SLR, a Nikon 950, in 1996. Now he uses a Nikon D1X digital camera. "It's an appendage. I love it."

He began selling fine art photographic prints two years ago. "I did occasional parties and then last year my IT job ended. I was a consultant and it was difficult finding work so I decided to start my company, Verdini Studios LLC." His photography is diversified - portraits, fine art, commercial interiors and weddings.

"I get into different modes," he explains. "In India, the adrenaline was different. I was constantly looking for a shot - they were everywhere. I love catching people in a candid situation. That always yields the essence of the individual.

"I take my camera everywhere. The floral pictures I take are when I'm walking or see something on the side of the road and I stop. It's just the lines and the way the light is hitting them. That's what grabs me."

He says taking the picture is a lot of fun, but the real excitement is the anticipation of the final product, and the ultimate satisfaction is when the print is finally matted and he looks at it in the end. "The most rewarding is when somebody else appreciates it -- that's the biggest rush."
