Bus Trip: Art of the Holidays!

November 15, 2015

Sit back. relax. Leave the driving to us as we take you on an artistic trip to New York City.

DIG IT! Magazine, the Art & Science of East Coast Gardening brings you another exciting and unique garden day trip. Join us on the Rollin’ Garden Party Bus on Thursday, December 3, for an Art of the Holidays experience.

STOP 1: The Train Show at New York Botanical Garden. This year the Garden adds 3,000 square feet of exhibit in the world-famous Enid Haupt Conservatory. (It’s deliciously warm among the Conservatory’s palms, orchids, gardenias and other tropical plants!) Here, trains whistle through the tropicals and past New York’s legendary buildings and landmarks, all made of seeds, bark, dried flowers and other plant materials and chug through miniature gardens and landscapes fashioned with small flowering plants and tropicals that resemble trees.

Into fairy gardens? Or other miniature gardens? Now's your chance to get some great ideas.

We’ll have plenty of time to experience the outdoor gardens design as well as NYBG’s magnificent trees. Have lunch on your own in your choice of two cafés (they’re good!) and shop for holiday gifts in the well-stocked gift/book store.

STOP 2: The 18th Annual International Art Exhibit of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) and The Horticultural Society of New York at 1st New York Design Center in midtown Manhattan.

Robin Jess, Executive Director of ASBA, will lead us ona tour and discuss contemporary botanical art, the broad range of styles and subject matter, and the rebirth and vitality of the genre.

ASBA has a membership of over 1,300 from the United States and 25 other countries. Its mission is to promote public awareness of botanical art, honor its traditions and further its development.

The Horticultural Society of New York’s Gallery encourages gardeners and artists alike to appreciate the creative intersection between art and nature with exhibitions that showcase emerging and established contemporary artists inspired by horticulture, botany, landscape, and the environment.

This trip makes a Great Holiday Gift for someone who loves gardens or art.
